It is a conglomeration of ideas, races, culture, and history. It is a place where legends are come to life. Aegea is a place where Greek legends are real. The last Pegasus flies in the Mountains of the Moon. Cyclopsi hunt the unfortunate traveler who strays too close to their caves. Sirens lure sailors to their deaths. The gods are real, and all too often have come down from Olympus to interfere with the lives of men. And if the statues of Father Zeus happen to bear a strong resemblance to Oberon, or if the descriptions of Hercules sound a lot like that of Gerard, well, that's to be expected. The majority of humanity in Aegea believes that the members of the Royal Family of Amber are the gods who come from mount Olympus; currently, they also happen to believe that the Titans of old have gained the upper hand over the gods and rule in their stead. Someday, the gods will take their rightful place again; but in the meantime, all these beings deserve worship. There is unrest, of course, a reflection of the war in Heaven. And there is a minority of people in power who know the real truth, and use this information to trade with Amber. There are still others, heretics, who think that none of these creatures are gods and deserve any kind of worship; but they are the minority, and keep their views in secret. Aegea has a place in the Golden Circle because of its vast agricultural resources. Wine, grapes, oil, foodstuffs, animals, all these are produced in the shadow and exported. Those in the know use their trading skills to obtain items that would not easily be found elsewhere. Aegea is Clytemnestra's shadow, and she is a sort of demigoddess there, an avatar of Aphrodite. She has been known to wander the world, spreading a message of love to the masses, though she is also legendary for testing the faithfulness of men and women who are in monogamous marriage... |
