Mitanni is a temperate shadow, dotted with a few landlocked seas, and an opening to the oceans of the Golden Circle in the West. In the distant past, Mitanni was a relatively peaceful realm of bronze age agricultural city states, with little central organization beyond irrigation projects shared between the cities. It was a shadow that had not much to offer Amber or its neighbors, and was considered a backwater.

The Black Road War changed all that.

Chaosians agents infiltrated the shadow and provided Iron Age technology, and chariots, to a group of nomads on the arid fringes of civilization. These nomads swept into the fertile plain area dominated by the city states, and armed with new tactics and iron weapons, quickly subjugated the Mitanni city states and established the Great Kingship over them all.

In return for this uplifting of technology, Mitanni War Chariots joined the Chaosian War effort, pouring out from their conquered shadow and helping to subjugate the nearby realms of the Golden Circle. Their technology may not have been as high as some realms, but the Mitanni also employ ceremonial magics to augment their soldiers and their weapons.

The Mitanni have mostly installed themselves as a ruling elite in the City States that now make up their empire. The fine, large scale stonework, including Ziggurats, temples and government buildings of the City States continue to grow and develop under the Empire's rule.

Great King Sardanapal's palace, on the banks of the Nasharim River, is one of the larger such buildings in the Golden Circle, featuring statues of Hippogriffs, a water garden, and an opulent court of numerous diplomats, functionaries, supplicants, representatives from the City States, and an even larger harem for the Great King.

Today, besides willing soldiers, Mitanni offers a number of agricultural products, and stonework. Some of the improvements and expansions made to the Chaosian Embassy in Amber in recent years was done by Mitanni stonemasons.
