His face has the beginnings of a grin on it, and his hazel eyes twinkle as if he has just heard or told a joke. His right hand holds a white quill pen with a brass nib before a bit of parchment which bears the outlines of the image on this very trump. His legs are covered with blue cotton pants with brass rivets, a brass button, and are supported by a large brass buckle bearing the same symbol as the reverse of the card. Behind him on the wall are hung a variety of tools for gunsmithing, woodworking, horology, and numerous other creative endeavours. His white Stetson hat and shirt sit on the bench next to the ink well and the blade of a ‘Bowie’ knife without a handle. If placed next to Damien’s trump, as drawn by Johann, it becomes apparent that both form a larger image, with both men looking into the other’s eyes. Johann's trump of Damien: Damien stands facing half sinister, his face grave as if he is about to begin to discuss a serious matter. His dark, wavy hair is gathered at the neck by a polished steel ring, and a matching smaller steel ring hangs from his left earlobe. His left hand bears three steel rings, one set with an opal and the other two simple bands. His right thumb also has a steel signet ring. Between both hands, only six fingers are outstretched and his arms are across his chest. Damien is depicted wearing a dark wool coat with steel buttons, dark trousers which are bloused into calf-high well polished dark leather boots, and a white ruffled shirt whose cuffs protrude from his coat. The hilt of a stiletto protrudes from the top of his right boot. Hanging from his belt is a watered steel flamberge rapier with most of the wavy blade exposed, and the hilt of a matching watered steel dagger partially shows beneath the coat and between its tails. A raven perches atop a wool tricorner hat which sits on a bench behind Damien. If placed next to Johann’s own trump, it becomes apparent that both form a larger image, with both men looking into the other’s eyes. |
