The woman behind the desk wore a wide-collared, V-necked dress of blue-green, had long hair and low bangs, all of a cross between sunset clouds and the outer edge of a candle flame in an otherwise dark room, and natural I somehow knew, and her eyes behind glasses I didn't think she needed were as blue as Lake Eire at three o'clock on a cloudless summer afternoon; and the coluor of her compressed smile matched her hair. -- Nine Princes in Amber

I returned to the cards, and there was Flora in a gown green as the sea, just as I'd remembered her the previous evening. --Nine Princes in Amber

=======

Flora has a very unique perspective amongst Amberites. While most of her family - and certainly her brothers, have spent their lives manoeuvring for the alpha position, Flora has achieved what she wants in her own way.

Remember this - when the armies of Order went to Chaos, Flora was the quartermaster. And she was superb.

It has been said that whoever rules in Amber, Flora is at their side. Certainly she was Oberon's favourite, most biddable daughter - 'the pretty one'. She was Eric's loyal supporter(and endured several centuries on Shadow Earth monitoring Corwin for him. When it was clearly expedient, she supported Corwin, and now she is at Mandor's side in Amber, acting as his hostess and organising the glittering Amber social calendar - now assisted in part by her son Chadwick and her niece Clytemnestra. Whatever was at the root of that strange episode with Random on Shadow Earth after Patternfall, it was clearly a momentary aberration that she has done pretty penance for.

Perfectly styled and presented, Flora has never been heard to raise her beautifully modulated voice. She is a study in how to present yourself. Lovers have come - for she has no shortage of admirers - and gone. Flora remains alone, above it all, some say. A heart of ice, others say. Flora merely smiles faintly and passes on.

But it does not do to underestimate or cross Flora. Those who are her enemies may come to a very sticky end. Those who merely displease her will find their lives becoming ... uncomfortable. Suddenly, they will discover, their seat at life's (or certtainly Amber's) banquet will be in sniffing range of the privies.
