The East Wing

Index | Time Under Chaos | Settings | Castle Amber | The East Wing

A mostly unused area developed during King Oberon's reign at a time when the extended royal family lived together in relative harmony. The area is one of the few still illuminated by traditional non-magical methods.

The Sky Room

The approach is decorated by rather severe portraits of Amber past and present staring down from the walls, flickering torchlight giving them an air of disapproval. Some are instantly recognizable - like Oberon and Swayville glowering at each other - but not all. By their distinguished appearance they were all royal, and probably dead. It is lit bright enough to show off the marble and murals to good effect.

The room itself is a domed chamber with a huge frieze of cloud, sky and seraph of angels staring down from the ceiling, but it was the floor ehich grabs the attention. It has a design in gold at the center of a checkerboard pattern.

The Sky Room is one of four rooms laid out in a square around a central cloister. The others are the Ocean, Vulcan and Earth Rooms. What is significant is that this is the one where Oberon allowed the guilds to place their mark.

Leading away from the Sky Room, there is a corridor of mirrors, mostly in storage now, leading to what appears to be a tradesman's entrance. This has been used in the past if members of the royal family wished to enter or exit the Palace unannounced.
