Schools for Sorcery

Index | Time Under Chaos | Creating a Character | Sorcery Power | Spells | Schools for Sorcery

Through magical discipline, Sorcery can stylize the laws of Reality to produce certain results. However, at the basic level, there are only so results one can obtain. Over time, Sorcerers defined the various styles of manipulation into five distinct categories, or Schools. These Schools govern the essential functions that Sorcery can perform: Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Perception, and Manipulation.

Alteration:
Spells that change the basic characteristics of Reality from one thing into another. For example, they can transform a Shadow-dweller into a tree or temporarily increase their own strength by altering their muscle mass.

Conjuration:
Spells that allow the creation of something from nothingness. For example, they might create a sword from thin air or throw a fireball at an enemy.

Destruction:
Spells that destroy, deteriorate, or otherwise undo some aspect of Reality. For example, they could cause an enemy to rapidly age or erase someone’s memory.

Perception:
Spells that affect and expand the mental perceptions of the caster. For example, they could sense unseen danger or mentally communicate with a friend.

Manipulation:
Spells that control or manipulate Reality without altering its basic characteristics. For example, they could telekinetically move a stone or make someone fall in love with them.

Spells under these five Schools are broken down further still to two basic Types: Invasive (a spell that creates a direct Psychic effect); Noninvasive (a spell that creates an indirect Psychic effect). These Types effectively define what requirements must be met before the result can be obtained.

All spells will fall under one of these Schools and Types.
