House Helgram

Colors: Green and Purple
Symbol: Burning Pentagram
Motto: We are Eternal

Ancient and wise, House Helgram was one of the original Houses of the Courts of Chaos. Since its earliest beginnings, the Great House has survived the intrigues and infighting of the Courts while more powerful Houses have fallen into ruin. Called ‘cowardly’ by some of their peers, the Helgrams recognize that true power is wielded subtly and from behind the throne. In addition to their profound skills with Sorcery and the Logrus, they excel at Machiavellian politics and the accumulation of knowledge. To them, the well-timed revelation of a secret can be far more effective and deadly than any other weapon. Why expend resources to destroy any enemy when one properly placed whisper can make them tear themselves apart? Consummate manipulators, their diplomats are both respected and feared at the negotiating table. They prefer to lead their opposition into believing they have come to their conclusions themselves. When silver tongues aren’t enough, the Helgram can employ a surprising variety of subtle Manipulations spells to achieve their goals.

Their recent involvement in the Patternfall War has been both a disappointment and a boon for the Helgrams. Sensing potential in the insane Amberite Brand, the Helgram Elders allowed the younger members of the House to assist him covertly, but initially disavowed his scheme. In this fashion, they could reap the benefits if he succeeded and dispose of potential competition in their own ranks should he failed. This became a mixed blessing. Dara Helgram, an ambitious youngling, had plans of her own and forced the issue. Before the Elders could deal with her, the war had spiraled out of control and forced House Helgram to expend more resources than originally intended.

However, in the last century, the Great House has re-established much of its former power and is now utilizing the abundant resources of Amber and the Golden Circle to strengthen their power-base even further. With a direct descendant of their House sitting on the throne, this trend should continue into the (near) future. Their political marriages to House Hendrake have continued to strengthen their blood-line and the House remain closely tied. Indeed, it’s hard to examine a Chaosian family tree without finding a Helgram in it.

Prominent Members

Dara Helgram-Sawall- The Queen Mother. The Destroyer. The Liberator. Dara Helgram-Sawall is known by many names (not all of them flattering). She was one of the Helgram younglings to ‘encourage’ Brand in his dangerous scheme. Taking advantage of the chaos caused by the Patternfall War, she leapt to the forefront of her House and firmly established herself as political entity.

Lintra Helgram- Hell-Maiden of Chaos and commander of Chaos forces in Avalon during the Patternfall War. Originally Hendrake, she married into the Helgrams and had Dara by her first husband. Later, she reportedly became Benedict’s lover, had his daughter (Mayal), and then cut off his arm. He, in turn, killed her.

Melantha Helgram- A low-ranked diplomat and the baroness of a little known Shadow (Pneumatica). A gentle and quiet-spoken woman, she is the mother of Tear. She was apparently assassinated by Amberites, but her true fate remains unknown (even to her daughter).

Duke Uther Helgram- The Duke of House Helgam is a mysterious figure and a close confidant of the Emperor.
