Dark Binding

A dark binding is used by particularly nasty Chaosians, sometimes for sadistic fun, sometimes on defeated enemies. It makes the victim slavishly dependent on them (or, as in this case, someone of their choosing) but to a heightened degree. The victim beomes helpless dependent and fixated on the object - if they are out of their sight, even for a minute, the victim suffers appalling torment. Thus Sparrow was visibly upset when Solitaire ordered her to guard someone else, because the Ranger is fixated on Solitaire. Some particularly nasty Chaos lords use dark bindings to create their personal bodyguards ...

Originally it was used for binding demons - the power of it was useful and it served to make demons loyal, and very, very incomfortable about being disloyal. That was useful. It was, allegedly, a particularly sadistic Emperor who experimented to see what would happen if he used it on mortal and Chaosian enemies. The results were sickening.

Sleep is about the only way of ending the torment. Or killing them. Or paying the victim as much attention as the victim is paying you - but that is ... wearing.

May I ask precisely which power(s) is/are involved in such a thing?

Logrus Sorcery.

Indeed, building on their questions: Can it be lifted from without, or from within?

Neither. It can only be lifted by the one who cast it, and with great difficulty. Or so it's generally believed.

Is the victim aware that they have been ensorcelled or is the binding such that their perceptions are warped to their new mental state as the natural state of affairs?

They are generally not aware (the exceptions would be those who are extremely powerful themselves).
