Question:

You are an astonishingly good looking man. You're not really wasting that on Johann, are you?

Reply:

"My dear, in my time I have had many lovers, some minority of whom have been men. I belong to none of them, and none should presume that after I have moved on, I will never share myself again. As to who they have been, and who they might be... I will not comment," Damien said with a confident smile while twirling a fountain pen in the fingers of his left hand.

Allen:

How are you profiting from the trade Amber does with other shadows? Are you acting privately, or are you sponsored by the government?

Reply:

The propensity for powerful current and past residents of Amber to acquire small volumes of valuable mediums of exchange in shadow, for example bags of gold from hollow oak trees, and then bring it with them to Amber in order to exchange for goods and services presents a number of macroeconomic challenges. (Inflation is the most commonly cited example, but there are others.)

Trade, however, is the only real mechanism for generating wealth. While some of my trading endevours are at the behest of the government, in the form of government contracts to provide a specified quantity of tobacco or steel quarrels at prices which have already been negotiated, the majority of my merchantile activities are 'free,' in the sense that I am my own backer.

If you were looking for a short answer: I buy low, and sell high... and then do a terribe lot of book-keeping.
