Rambling, a bit old-fashioned, with some very charming spaces and not a few distinctly odd twists and corners.

History

Once the pre-eminent source of creative talent in the Courts, House Barimen never recovered its former prestige and power after the defection of one of its greatest (some now say "maddest") geniuses, Dworkin. The Ways of Barimen became a backwater, inhabited by what had been a cadet branch.

Count Alfonso Barimen, the latest of these, aspires to improve the status of his House. Not long before the Patternfall War he made an eminently successful marriage with a lady of House Heldt, a liaison that spawned numerous offspring. He and most of his family are still sensitive about their connection with the "disreputable" branch of the bloodline, i.e. the Amberites, Dworkin's descendants.

Important people in Barimen include:

Count Alfonso Barimen: The current Head of House is a tall, thin, dark man with aquiline features. He is polished in manner, rather courtly; he is also inclined to be stodgy. He has a strong desire to advance the interests of his House, but wants to do so honorably; in his view, House Barimen does not need any more aspersions cast on its character.

Countess Ekaterina Heldt-Barimen: Cousin to Baroness Tatjana Heldt, Alfonso's consort is a slender, fair-haired woman with a quiet manner and a spine of high-grade steel.

Their seven children in order of birth are:

Tiresa: Already married and living with the House she married into [which one is TBD].

Enriko: Heir to the House and also looking to contract a suitable marriage.

Pavlo: Tall, dark and handsome; a gazetted flirt. In training as a warrior, and also a notable Sword Dancer.

Lovisa: Ferociously intelligent and independent-minded, with a scientific bent. She has established her own Ways, but just as often is out in Shadow, collecting specimens and data.

Madalin: A polished hostess with a well-developed aesthetic sense, she aspires to a diplomatic career; in the meantime she helps her mother run the household.

Claudio: The family member with the largest measure of the artistic talent for which the House has always been famed. Relatively young still, but already becoming known for both conventional portraiture and Trump Artistry. Permanently lame in one leg due to a run-in with a demonic assassin in childhood.

Jonmari: Petite, dark, pretty. Studying to be a healer.
