Protector of Ægypt, Lord of the Nile and All Life Giving Waters, Sword of
the Gods, 12th Pharoah of the Dynasty of Atum. Ægypt is a desert empire ruled by the Earthly Embodiment of the God/Goddess-Emperor/ess whose abilities extend to controlling the river and the fertility of the crops. The capital, Alexandreta, is nestled in the fertile valley of the of the River Keth. The capital is home of both the Museum and Library of Alexandreta, repositories of all the Shadow's knowledge and achievements; from the earliest times before written history, to the present. Society is in a flattened feudal system with the vast majority of the population in the farming class. One of the largest crops, flax, provides both paper and a wide array of linens, from the most delicate of sheers to a heavier fabric to protect one from the cold desert winds to sailcloth. The religion is polytheistic with cities having their own gods or goddesses, the same deities perhaps only playing a minor role in another part of Ægypt. Temple priests have the ear of the ruler, at least one serving in the council of every Pharaoh since the beginning of time. The ruler is also a member of the priesthood, training in the temple from childhood in preparation of the day they take the Throne and only the Pharaoh and the High Priests/Priestess are allowed into the Inner Sanctum of the temples. Ægypt's exports include spices, dates, papyrus, linen and the purest gold to be found in the Golden Circle.  Akenaton is a man in the prime of his life. He served as commander of the armies of Ægypt until the ascension of his father, Akenaton XI. He is a man of deep convictions and one quite sure of his superiority as deification and therefore considers himself equal to those of Amber- at least. He surrounds himself with the wealth and beauty of his kingdom and has a harem of 200 wives, including many from the shadows of the Golden Circle. His first wife is one of the younger daughters of Nisir, Saha 'al D'Jinn, who caught Akenaton's eye when he visited Persa shortly after the war. A war which Akenaton kept Ægypt out of by declaring their neutrality, as he privately felt himself above such petty concerns. He, after all, is a god. Officially, he stated that his land was still suffering from the previous ruler and would be no help to anyone. Ægypt is still recovering from the reign of Mad Empress Antekhan (who reigned before A XI), who virtually blighted the land while engaged in her own insane road building projects. Records left by her tell of strange dreams that plauged her nights for many years before her death, and seemed to have started shortly before the road building project. Believed by the late Empress to have been messages from her ascended ancestors, Antekhan's journals tell of a a glowing, winding path that granted great power to those who traversed it. It was her attempts of recreating this path that drove her mad. Evidence of the attempt still exist all over the desert land, in suspicious looking meandering and partially built stone roads that end as abruptly as they start. |
