Morganthe, Princess of Rebma  Morganthe was Moire's older daughter, a bright, beautiful and highly romantic young woman. Spoiled and sheltered in Rebma, Morganthe showed signs of bipolar personality traits from an early age, but had been so happy in Rebma, coddled by her mother, adored by the court and all the great artists of Rebma, that these tendencies were easily overlooked. She had always been taken particularly by the cult of the Amberite, and her romantic dreams of love and life in Amber made her easy prey for the young Random of Amber, who might or might not have loved her for a time. Certainly she adored him, but her dreams of easy living in great palaces of the world, and particularly in Amber, did not reconcile with his dreams of touring shadow, gliding, playing cards and getting high all the time with his friends. Eventually, she complained too much and he took her on a fast trip back to mother. Slightly hysterical as she was hustled down the Faiella-bionin, Morganthe turned and spat at him, "Then that's the last you'll see of me - or your son!" But anger turned quickly to a black depression, one that Morganthe was unable to shake. Her love for Random grew and grew as he stayed away, and the hatred turned inward. She convinced herself that she had driven him away, that it was all her fault. She tried his Trump again and again but there was no answer. Moire tried to cheer her up, turn her attention to the young men of Rebma, or distract her with parties and balls and opportunities to use her skills at music and dance, but Morganthe could turn any of these into ways to remember Random - she preferred blue eyes, or she had danced such and such dance with Random, etc. Over time she seemed to be improving, but severe pastpartem depression following the birth of her son Martin led to a growing chemical dependency and finally suicide by overdose when baby Martin was only six months old. |
