The problem of his dog put off again, Delluth turned back to Florimel. "Sorry, your highness," he said, moving out of earshot of guards and servants with her. "His condition was appalling," he began, and then described it in precise detail, along with his treatment efforts, taking for granted that she would understand him. "I'm not at all sure about his chances of recovery," he concluded, glancing toward Merlin. "And I remain surprised that he could be so - quickly overcome, and wonder if Signora Petra really had a full understanding of what happened." "Probably not," said Flora crisply. "It's not every day that one encounters a large burst of Pattern energy, courtesy of a Pattern master. I'll admit I'm surprised ... " She broke off, her expression thoughtful, and then said, "He will be shielded from attack where I have prepared. And you will be able to add additional shielding of a Chaosian nature should you feel the need. "But how soon will we be able to move him?" "I don't know," Delluth said unhappily. "I didn't think it through ... Please tell me what you think. Do you have a better idea of what to do for him than I have, or my colleagues are likely to have?" "Not how to cure him," said Flora. "But he'd be safer in the Shadow I've selected than either here of in Chaos, I believe. My interest has, after all, made it exceptionally Real for a Shadow. And you could accompany him there - with any colleagues you believe would be necessary. We can make it worth their while, I am sure." "Worth whose while?" Delluth said, confused, then shrugged it off, apparently indifferent to the idea of compensation. "We'll have to see." He looked toward the entrance, where no Ambassador had yet appeared. "But *which* Pattern master?" he wondered aloud. His brow wrinkled as he tried to take a mental inventory of known or possible Pattern masters. There were quite a few it seemed he could exclude ... "Was it someone from outside?" "That," said Flora quietly, "has no bearing on the Prime Minister's condition. Which perhaps we should be ascertaining while we wait." With an effort, Delluth reined in his curiosity. "I can try again," he agreed. He chose a relatively blank stretch of wall to stand in front of and once again focused on a Trump. (Off-list conversation, then over to Collecting the Ambassador)
