Heraldry: A white merman with dark green hair, beard and tail, carrying a black trident, on a blue-green field

Saying: We Endure

BackGround: Although their coffers do not match that of the Lannisters or Martells, House Manderly is one of the richest in Westeros. A recent saying exhibits this, “As a wide as a Manderly’s money-belt.” Undoubtedly, this stems from the fact that the Manderlys are also some of the fattest nobles in Westeros. The Manderly men also pride themselves on the size of their mustaches, which they spend copious hours tending to.

Unlike many of the northern Houses, the Manderlys worship the Seven, instead of the Old Gods. They also hold strongly to the concept of chivalry and instill it strongly in their children. Tournaments are regular events in White Harbor, and are so prevalent that the lower classes are invited to attend. This has brought them into conflict with several of the more disreputable northern Houses, such as the Boltons. However, it has made them extremely loyal bannermen to the Starks and they have followed the Great House into battle without question. Furthermore, they are masters of diplomacy and very worldly in thought. Some call them the “Sea Lions,” but never in the company of a Lannister.

When going to war, they can raise approximately 1,500 men, including twenty-odd knights wenty-odd knights with as many squires, two hundred lances, swordsmen, and freeriders, and the rest foot armed with spears, pikes, and tridents. These troops, as well as siege engine and supplies, are frequently loaded onto barges and sent up the White Knife to engage in distant battles.

Notable Family Members

Wyman Manderly: The current Lord of White Harbor and head of House Manderly. He has two son, Ser Wylis and Ser Wendel. He is the brother of Ser Marlon Manderly and uncle to Corryn Manderly. Wyman is in his late 60’s and so vastly obese that he cannot even fit on his warhorse.

Wylis Manderly: The eldest son of Lord Wyman, Wylis is a large, bald man with a walrus mustache. He is the current commander of the Manderly’s army and devotes his life heavily to the ways of chivalry and honor.

Leona Woolfield: Wife to Wylis Manderly, Leona was originally born a Woolfield. She is an attractive woman, if a tad rough around the edges (a result of her rustic upbringing). She has given Wylis two daughters during their marriage, Wynafryd (age 19) and Wylla (age 15), who have benefited greatly from the cosmopolitan atmosphere of White Harbor. Indeed, the Woolfield women are a common sight in White Harbor, attending the regular functions and acting as hostesses while Wylis is off at tournament or on errands for his father.

Wendel Manderly: The younger son of Lord Wyman, Wendel fashions himself after his brother in many ways. He is the larger of the two, width-wise, and is also bald and sports a walrus mustache. A battle companion to his brother, he follows in Wylis’ footsteps whenever the banners of Manderly are raised.

Marlon Manderly: Marlon Manderly, Lord Wyman’s cousin, is the guardian and protector of White Harbor. Unlike most Manderlys, his years as a sailor have kept him lean and battle-hardened. He currently oversees the refortification of White Harbor, as requested by Eddard Stark; a task he takes quite seriously. While he believes strongly in the ways of chivalry, he does not believe a knight is made by tournaments. His wealth and influence is actually superior to that of his eldest brother, who is too busy with tournaments and feasting. If he has a thorn in his side, it is his son, Corryn Manderly.

Corryn Manderly: The son of Ser Marlon, Corryn would have been better suited with the Greyjoys than the get of White Harbor. Although he served under Eddard Stark during the War of the Usurper, most believe he makes a better pirate than a knight of the realm. His father has utilized the boy’s skills on the water to benefit the family, but worries that this black sheep will turn out to be a wolf in disguise. Corryn couldn’t agree more and is making plans for his own future.

Donella Hornwood: Born a Manderly, Lady Donella is the wife of Lord Halys Hornwood. She is also Corryn’s favorite cousin and they visit constantly when he is in the Hornwood realms.

Maester Theomore: The counselor of White Harbor, well-versed in politics, history, and medicine. He works closely with Marlon Manderly to manage the complex issues of running White Harbor.
