"They'll all be alright," he assured his friend. "I had a fever two years ago, I had to go to bed and I hurt all over and kept throwing up, but Maester Sewell made me all better." Gavrin nodded, a little comforted. "I had the spotted fever last year," he announced. "And Syndra had it toio, but she didn't have nearly as many spots as me. Our Septa said she's never seen so many spots on one boy." He looked up the remaining stairs thoughtfully. "Godwyn, if we get out onto the roof, do you think we'd be able to see what's happening in the meadow? With the Knights practising?" "Good idea," Godwyn agreed. "Let's go." He turned and raced up the stairs towards one of the doors to the roof. The doors were meant to be locked, but the children had found ways of opening them long ago, to it was the work of a few minutes to be out and on tthe roof in the narrow gap between the leads and the crenellated wall. Here they could peer out through the embrasures, higher than anyone else in Holdfast. As Gavrin had suggested, they could see clear over to the meadow where the knights were strolling, talking - and a few were exercising, while the squires and pages were preparing their pavilions. The figures were tiny from this elevation, but the colours they wore and the standards they bore could just about be made out. "I hope Ser Deryll does well," said Gavrin presently. After a pause, he went on, "And we mustn't let Trey come out here cos he's too little. Or Syndra, cos she's a girl." Godwyn nooded, his eyes on the distant field. "People die in tourneys, sometimes," he said fiercely. "I hope Ser Herys is killed." "Me too," said Gavrin loyally. "And if he isn't when I'm grown up and a Knight like my father, I shall challenge him and kill him." Categories: WinterChillsGameLogs, CastleHoldfast |
