Processing to Dinner Tasha Chad

The gong sounded again ...

Merlin stepped forward, bowed low, and offered his arm to his aunt. She took it with a smile that could have cut steel, and they turned to process together out of the Star Chamber, along the Rose Corridor and into the State Dining Room (not as large as the Sate Banqueting Hall, but capable of holding up to fifty if needed).

The Rose Corridor was a long corridor, empty of any people, and lined with windows on one side. The darkness made it impossible to see what it overlooked, but the entire passage, ceiling, wall and floor, were painted with elaborate representation of roses - golden, red, pink, white - which climbed and twisted their way over all the surfaces, vivid in the light of the candelabra that had been placed on the small tables stretching the length of the corridor.

"I believe that Lord Chadwick will be your escort," Vikund said helpfully, before moving to withdraw. "Until later, Your Highness," he smiled to Islain, before taking his place elsewhere.

Chad's ears were burning as he recovered from some previous encounter as he approached Tasha. "I believe that I'm to escort you," he said offering an arm.

Nodding unsurely, Tasha murmured, "Oh! When Princess Islain pointed you out to me I didn't realize she meant that as an introduction and that you would be my escort in to dinner." Tasha took the proferred arm and offered a smile.

He smiled in return as they walked. "I don't really recognize you," he said. "I feel like I should, though. Would you mind telling me a little about yourself?"

"Oh, there isn't anything really to tell," Tasha demured, "But I am honored to have you as an escort. I heard that you were a hero today! Did you really save the city from burning down?"

"Well, part of it, really. The docks, and the buildings around there." His blush was fading, but there was a definite sense of humility about him. "I organized things, and then there was the jumping from building to building trying to stay ahead of the flames while saving lives. I'm sure somebody was doing something more impressive at that moment."

"Jumping from building to building? While they were burning?" Tasha's eyes went very wide, "Oh! How amazing!" Then she gave him an appraising look, "Did you shape-shift or did you do that in your normal state?"

"You're from Chaos! No one else has asked that," he said.

Tasha nodded at his observation of her natal homeland.

"Normal state," he said as the blush disappeared with his interest. "I've been studying to do that kind of thing for years," he added. "Mother insisted."

"Your mother insisted?" Tasha smiled in confusion, "You've been studying how to jump from building to building? OH! Or do you mean saving people's lives?"

"Both, really. Medical efforts as well as rescuing people in dire circumstances. The people I rescued tended to be much bigger than I, though. At least a head taller for the women... the usual victims of kidnappings, imprisoning in glass, that sort of thing." He looked sideways at her. "I don't suppose you've ever been...?"

"In need of rescue?" Tasha laughed, "No, but I did once rescue someone myself..." Then she smiled a dimpled smile up at Chadwick, "But if I ever do need rescuing, I now know whom to call." She patted his arm with her free hand.

He returned her pat with a gentle one to her hand. "And I'll be there in an instant," he said. "So, are you part of the ambassadorial staff, relative of the King...?"

"Oh, no," She shook her head, "I'm not a relative." Then she winked, "At least not yet," and laughed. "And not one of the ambassadorial staff, though," She looked pensive, "I do think that I could be one -- an ambassador -- of a sort, you know, as a representative of my House?" She looked at Chadwick and smiled, "But that isn't why I came. I had an invitation to come to Amber -- to study. I hope to be enrolling in classes."

At this point they entered the dining room.
