Description

This ancient shadow of the Black Zone has served with distinction in many conflicts for their Lords of Chaos, and is a full member of the Courts. Led by King Eon Bisi Anaaph, the Shadow is well known for the zeal of its warriors and their martial skills.

Axum is the capital of Abyssinia, and within its borders, wonders beyond belief can be found, as Axumites are also very skilled in the arts and sciences. Pyramids show honour to the greatest leaders and warriors of Axum, and monuments to their Chaos patrons dot the landscape. The buildings themselves are rather modern, but advanced for the time period with indoor plumbing, and an aqueduct system and sewage disposal in the cities.

The climate of Axum is relatively mild, but can become quite hot in the summer months, akin to its analogue on Earth. Flora and fauna are likewise similar to those found on Earth, with a few exceptions.

Politically, Axum enjoys the rule of an enlightened monarchy, and a peculiar system of maintenance of the quality of its monarchs through the hereditary line. A candidate is chosen by the reigning king and his counselors at the time of the heir’s birth, to be his teacher and guardian. This person is chosen with great care, for the person will have ultimate responsibility for how the heir is reared. Once he is chosen, he is considered a slave, but is given full authority over the well-being and education of the heir. When the heir reaches his majority, he is tested in a series of grueling challenges given by a group of adjudicators chosen by the council and the priesthood. If the heir fails, the guardian and the heir are killed. It is for this reason that the reigning King usually has more than one heir, though knowledge of the fate that awaits usually means that this happens very seldom. Once the heir is recognized, the guardian is given whatever he wants as a reward, and is free of his tasks.
