THE PRINCESS FLORIMEL SOCIETY SISTERS:

The Princess Florimel Society Sisters (or PFS' - usually pronounced "puffs" by those not so found of them, or "Flowers" as they call themselves) were founded about ten years after Faiella University was reconstructed and opened, by a group of society mothers who wanted to make certain their daughters interacted with the best of the young ladies in the university and had a place on campus to stay where they wouldn't miss out on any important social events of the University but also wouldn't be staying in the same house as any men or undesirables.

Despite this not so commendable goal, the Society, as it was put together embraced the ideals of sisterhood and comraderie, beauty and art, high academic standards, and the finest parties on campus. Girls wishing to join the Flowers must have exemplary grades, an understanding of art, music and etiquette, and a special unspoken "something" which differs from girl to girl and generation to generation but provides the Society with a safety net in case there is just something they don't like about an applicant. Nowadays it is only possible to join with the recommendation and patronage of a current or emeritus member, so that having family who had been Flowers, or being friends with one helps. It is still a haven of snobs and peacocks, but over time the sense of being a place for fun and social opportunities has outweighed the idea that it is a place to meet other rich girls, and many of the Flowers are very nice. Some members are even on scholarship, though this is much rarer than finding daughters of the nobility, ambassadors and major merchant families.

Flowers are required to keep a GPA of at least 3.0, to attend all society functions, and to put in at least eight hours of community service per term. Girls can be asked to leave for breaking any school rule even if the punishment is not otherwise severe, or could be subject to additional in-house discipline. Men are encouraged to come to all functions and are welcome in the open areas of the houses but are expressly forbidden in the dormitories. Any girl caught with a man in her room can be demoted, punished or removed from the society, depending on the will of the current Lady Rose.

Due to its popularity, there are now two chapters of the PFS on campus - the original house, once called simply the Princess Florimel Society House but now nicknamed Rose Hall, and the newer and larger Lily Hall, which also houses the pool and spa, the private library and the gym. All important functions still take place in Rose Hall, but most girls with the influence to choose prefer to stay at Lily Hall where they're closer to the decadence and where the rooms are larger.

It is probably worth noting that while Princess Florimel's name is on the society, this was mostly out of admiration for her, like a fan club, and she has never actually overtly sponsored the Flowers, although Flowers often become her proteges or help with her public service works.

There is a loose hierarchy within the PFS based on the four year system. Freshman are generally called Blossoms and have the least influence and the most work keeping the Halls clean and beautiful. Sophomores are referred to as Jewels, have a little more power and a little less work, but are often asked to be hall monitors and to oversee decorations for the parties. Juniors are called Debutantes and are a step up the ladder, often having positions of mild authority within the two Halls, organizing events, and even occasionally overseeing an entire dormitory wing. The Seniors are the queens of the Society, are called Ladies, and generally hold all high offices, though some seniors would prefer not to have that responsibility and don't put themselves forward.

The major offices are these:

Lady Rose - the President of the Society. The Lady Rose is in charge of the entire Society and makes final decisions in all areas, advised by those officers who are specifically in charge of each section.

Lady Lily - the Vice-President. The Lady Lily supports the Lady Rose and has nominal control over Lily Hall, unless overruled by the Lady Rose.

Lady Rue - the Disciplinary Committee head. Lady Rue is in charge of discipline and punishment of transgressions within the Society.

Lady Orchid - the Head of Entertainment. She plans all society functions and has final say over themes, decorations, invitations and so on.

Lady Jasmine - the Secretary. Keeps minutes, keeps track of all the girls' records and contributions, etc.

Lady Marigold - the Treasurer. In charge of finances, fund raisers and so on.

Each of these can have a committee of up to six members, but usually only the Lady Rue and Lady Orchid actually have such committees.

Important Members: Qilinda Vane - Lady Rose. Qilinda Vane is the daughter of one of the more respected and influential Ambassadors, and is an intelligent, lovely woman who is also unfortunately snobbish, sour and generally unpleasant to anyone below a certain income or level of attractiveness. She is one of the stricter of the recent Roses and has already asked three girls to leave, before the semester even started, due to what most consider technicalities.

Aisha Merolet - Lady Lily. Aisha's parents were wealthy merchants of originally Chaosian heritage, and she rose to power mostly through popularity. Most people consider her to be one of the most talented artists in the Society and there is something very intimidating about her. Flowers generally want to be her friend, because the alternative seems much worse, although she's never showed a side of herself other than the cool, competent businesswoman.

Zubrette Isen - Lady Rue. The position of Lady Rue is one generally taken only by girls who like to be in charge of other people's destinies, prize order over friendship, and sometimes have a sadistic streak. Zubrette is all of these things. Technically a Countess, her uncle Hadrian sits in regency of the County Isen, a decaying manor on the outskirts of Amber. Zubrette is a proponent of the controversial hazing of new Blossoms, has been known to prefer more creative methods of discipline to expulsion or fines. She tends to call these punishments "community service" but they generally have more to do with humiliation than with actually bettering the community. There are also rumors that Zubrette Isen not only heads the Disciplinary Committee but also runs a secret subsociety within the Flowers which is spoken of in whispers as the Dark Lilies. They supposedly engage in BDSM type initiations, have regular duels and study black magic.

Wintra Haven - Rusalka's roommate. Wintra is a shy, retiring girl pushed into the Society by her overbearing mother, who had been queen of Rose Hall and Lady Rose, and thought that PFS was exactly the way to force her daughter out of her shell. Wintra prefers writing and music to social interactions and rarely leaves her room unless Rusalka drags her. Other than that, she is a sweet girl with a fondness for white chocolate and the regrettable tendency to have crushes on men who are not only not very nice but don't know she exists.
