RuginwaldusGlyffeNAME: Ruginwaldus Glyffe AGE: 111 (b. September 3, 1872) SEX: Male HEIGHT: (see below) WEIGHT: Spare HAIR: White; thinning on top, but has a bushy moustache neatly curled at the ends EYES: Light green with a darker outer ring APPEARANCE: Professor Glyffe is an elderly wizard, spare of frame, aquiline of feature. Was once tall, but lost the use of his legs as a result of magical combat in the last wizard war but one. Since then he has used a small flying carpet to get around, for which he has a special license from the Ministry of Magic. Wears gold-rimmed spectacles, of which he has several different pairs (some serving special magical functions). FULL-BLOOD, HALF-BLOOD or MUGGLE-BORN: Full-blooded wizard BACKGROUND/HISTORY/ETC: Precise and orderly in his habits, but his office still looks overcrowded due to being stuffed with books, scrolls, papers and parchments of every description, not to mention the stone slabs, wax tablets, pottery shards, weird artifacts with weirder inscriptions, etc. that are scattered throughout it. As a teacher he is demanding but fair-minded, and capable of warming considerably to students who show a real interest in his subject. He is scrupulously courteous in manner to students and staff alike, a bit old-fashioned; you will not normally catch himcalling a student by his or her first name, and even most of the teachers are exempt (one notable exception being Albus Dumbledore, though normally only in private). He also has an excellent memory, and in fact claims to remember every student he has ever taught. SCHOOL SUBJECTS: I'm GREAT AT: Ancient Runes (of course!) [A Bit About the Subject of Ancient Runes: Magical inscriptions play a larger role in the wizarding world than one might think at first. They can be the vehicle of spells (or curses), and they are also vital in the permanent enchantment of objects. A spoken spell is ephemeral; in order to make it permanent, it must be inscribed, though not all such inscriptions will be visible to the naked eye (in fact, many are not -- hence Professor Glyffe's special spectacles). Those inscriptions that survive in such places as Egypt and Mesopotamia are sometimes the wizarding world's only clue to the magicks used by their ancestors. Ancient Runes is thus the study of magical inscriptions and how to make them, as well as of the languages in which they are made.] I'm GOOD at: Charms I'm also GOOD at: Defense Against the Dark Arts I'm TERRIBLE at: Potions DISADVANTAGE: Physical disability as described above. Also has a tendency to lose track of time when he's absorbed in something, which is the main reason he's so bad at Potions. HOUSE: Ravenclaw EQUIPMENT: Familiar: A Great Grey Owl named Axiothea Wand: Silver birch, sphinx hair FAMILY MEMBERS: He's outlived most of them. He is a lifelong bachelor, but there might be some great-nephews/nieces and/or cousins running around. |
