At an early age, he was fostered by Lord Bolton of the Dreadfort. His father, who worried that his younger son was a weakling with none of the strength and vigour of his elder brother, Jarrett, believed that the harshness of the Dreadfort would either be the making or the destruction of his son. In the event, it would appear to have been his making, for he returned home at eighteen, a strong and fearsome warrior - but also a quiet, watchful man. Unlike the affectionate boy who had left, Steffan never showed any emotion. He walked with a slight limp - he will never discuss the reason for this with anyone. In the War of the Usurper, the Dustins answered the call of Stark. Ser Steffan, knighted by Eddard Stark, became a famous warrior in the war - and Robert Barathorn decided to enoble him, with Eddard Stark's agreement. He was therefore gifted with the Draupaud lands, which had been left without a lord by the conflict. Ser Steffan took the lands and the name, and set about building a fortified manor at Clearwater (it is almost a castle, and will no doubt one day become one). Lord Steffan is seen as cold by those who serve him. Dark-haired and lean faced, he speaks seldom, and then without passion, without any signs of a sense of humour. He remains loyal to the Starks, and also on very good terms, it appears, with Lord Bolton of the Dreadfort, whose fosterling he was. Categories: WinterChills, Clearwater, HouseDraupaud |
