Patterns of Chat

The Ambassador glanced at Kieran, and then Fiona, but little of her attention was on them, most of her focus was already inward, turning in to the conversation she had heard before.

(OOC: I wasn't certain how you felt about making this public, so by default I did not. If you want it to be a public thread, please do put it on the main list)

ooc: No, I'd much prefer to leave it private and let them wonder if I'm retelling events honestly. :-)

With Kieran and Fiona chatting away, Priya has the opportunity to tune her thoughts inward, and listen to the conversat

There is no conversation to be heard now, but Priya's tuning into listen does allow her something unexpected. A voice, mental, inside of her head as if it were a Trump conversation.

And that voice is most definitely the Pattern.

"Trying to eavesdrop, daughter of the sea god?" the Pattern says. It even sounds amused.

"Seeking clarification." She responded in kind, gaze lifting to face the Pattern directly. "Since I was, to a degree, imposed upon, I'm not certain I would consider before to have been a private conversation. For myself, when I don't wish others to join in, I make certain no others hear." She offered it as helpful advice, her tone light. She was somewhat bemused by the turn of events and interested in making sure the conversation went forward in a friendly fashion.

"Amusing, to have etiquette of all things to be brought to my attention." the voice of the Pattern replies. "I would have expected you to be of get to be interested in such things.

"No" the Pattern continues "my broadcast was only meant for the one who reached out to communicate to me. My methods of conversation are not usually as precise as how we speak now." "Is that why you came?" The Pattern continues "Or did you intend to complete your initiation into my design?"

"I will be honest and confess that I did not consider additional initiation possible, given that I am not a member of the family, and that curiosity over who you might have been speaking with, and the fact that you were speaking, is what brought me here."

"You are not a member of the blood of the Maker, it is true." The Pattern says. "However, thanks to the machinations of your Queen, and the items you bear, you have managed to obtain a minor imprint of my design upon you. I see marks of an even newer power and initiation upon you, but that is not my affair."

"The minor imprint would allow you to successfully walk the Pattern and gain a full imprint, if I so chose." the Pattern intones.

"I suspected that a good part of the matter would be your choice, but I have to wonder why I would be so privileged when others have not been...?"

"Because, right now, as you are, you are something of a problem." the Pattern replies. "You obtained the minor imprint you possess by unusual and perhaps non-repeatable means. However, it violates my sense of order that this state of affairs should exist. It would be preferable that this state of affairs be rectified."

That she would violate his sense of order was unexpected and somewhat amusing. That how she came to be might not be repeatable she didn't doubt. Rarely would skills and opportunity line up in quite that fashion.

"In addition, I am not unaware of the situation of Rebma and your Queen." the Pattern adds. "I would prefer someone in Rebma who was fully an initiate of me if Rebma insists on its path of political and esoteric independence."

"Hmmm... In truth, as a member of Amber's royal family, I would expect Princess Llewella to fulfil that role. Certainly at this time she possesses more knowledge than I."

"She does indeed." The Pattern concedes. "On the other hand, you are not related by blood to the Queen, and so might possess a certain objectivity that Llewella may find hard to accomplish."

"Being objective is part of my job...." Priya mused thoughtfully, "but another consideration, is how deeply irked your scions will be. I'm fairly certain they will not see clear to giving me permission, so this time here is likely to be the only opportunity unless you grant passage to return."

"There is something to be said for action now." the Pattern responds.

"True... I believe Kieran's words were 'better to ask for forgiveness'?"

She looked up at the Sphinx. "I also doubt your Guardians will be amused by my presense.'

"However... I do believe you took my Trump image from Kieran. Are you capable of using that?"

"I would be a prisoner if my guardians were not under my control" The Pattern replies in an amused tone.

"True." Priya replied, also amused.

"As far as the Trump image, no, I did not borrow or steal the image from him. I do not have an image of you. I believe his strange device had an unfortunate resonance with the version of myself in the Castle."

"He was warned to leave things aside, but he seems quite taken with the object and what it can do." Her attention wavered, following the conversation physically beside her.

"It would seem I am a riddle away from joining you."

"It would appear that the Sphinx is not enamoured any longer of the riddle taught to it by Corwin's son." The Pattern says, in an amused tone

And then the contact suddenly and abruptly ends.

Conversation #2

The mental connection between Priya and the Pattern comes easily. Almost too easily, as the proximity to the Pattern at this point means that Priya's reception is an almost overwhelming signal.

Priya took a slow breath, spending a moment to moderate the connection so that it did not interfere with her ability to track what was going on around her.

  • What shall we speak of now?* comes the voice of the Pattern. *I

would also caution you that there is a more than zero percent chance that the Grand Enchantress may be aware of our conversation, in its existence if not its words*

  • I was up front in my purpose for coming here. That it had what is

for me an unforeseen result, is not a matter of duplicity. I am not interested in advertising the event, but I am not concerned with observation.* Priya replied calmly.

  • If I am not restrained against the attempt by those present. I

would consider walking. I believe that your interest in my doing so would sway objections they might hold.*

  • The matter of clarification, yes* The Pattern says. *Your

persistence is a trait that should be cultivated. Very well, daughter of the Ocean. Speak aloud your desire to walk the design, and I shall show my approval to all three of you, indelibly.*

  • Done.* Priya commented unnecessarily as she looked to Fiona. *And

while they gather their thoughts, would you tell me who you spoke with earlier? The echo of which lured me here? Or at least tell me if it was one of the individuals the Sphinx named to Kieran?*

  • I see. Something in return for our bargain* the Pattern says.

Outwardly, the Pattern flares, the lines of the Pattern intensifying, lasting fifteen seconds in all.

  • Fair enough. It was my counterpart in Amber which was contacted in

spirit by someone, like you, who took the unusual step of trying to speak to me. His name is Ederyn, of the line of Eric. He is a stranger to Amber, and sought to study me as he approached the city.*

  • He and you might find common cause, even if he is a creature of Earth

and Fire.*

  • Interesting.* I would not be adverse to meeting, even if how much we

genuinely had in common could be debated.

And as Kieran steps onto the design, the contact ends again.

Priya's attention now turned to the artifacts with her. On a Walk, they would be subject to the same forces she was.

  • We do this, yes?* She had already agreed, but she felt the need to

examine their situation in some depth before putting her foot on the sigil.

The voice of the spirit guard, and the Staff respond, echoing each other in some sort of odd reverberation effect.

"We do this": Ykanga states. "We accomplish this." the Staff intones. The latter continues speaking. "This was pre-ordained when you aided Queen Moire. She may not have intended it to be"We do this": Ykanga states. "We accomplish this." the Staff intones. The latter continues speaking. "This was pre-ordained when you aided Queen Moire. She may not have intended it to be so, but it is an inescapable consequence."

"This would complete me, if I am borne." Ykanga adds.

"Then..." Priya says solemnly, "Into the fire... and we shall be forged."

"Agreed" comes the voice of Varuna.

"So we are in concord." Ykanga adds.

After watching events transpire, Priya had one last comment for Ykanga.

"If you can reach Father.... he would probably appreciate knowing that this is about to happen...."

"I may be able to better send him a message rather attempt direct communication." the Spirit Guard replies. "Shall I send it?"

"Please."

A moment later, comes the voice of the Spirit Guard. "It is done." As Priya prepares to take the last three steps, Priya has a vision, or a sheaf of them.

Moire walking the Pattern, the deepest trench in the sea, the beach on Priya's favorite deserted island, south and east of Rebma.

And finally one of Father. This one is just of his face, as if he was sending back a message in the same way that Priya had Ykanga and Varuna sent one to him.

He speaks no words, and there is clear curiosity, patience, and perhaps acceptance in his eyes.

Curiosity over the first visions would wait, but she was satisfied with her father's reply, such as it was. Thus fortified, she took a last deep breath before her foot hit the Pattern. As with Moire's walk, and the first of her own, there was no room for doubt or hesitation. Only persistence and determination.

....it seems like such an opportunity to waste, but she's likely too tired to confront the High Queen... How crazy would it be to Teleport into a Way? Does she have enough information to try extracting herself from her Father's? Otherwise our options seem to be going home (to Minos' house) or returning to the group as Kieran did.

It would be crazy to try and teleport into a Way...but I do point out that Priya IS an initiate of a House now, and would be better equipped than many if she wanted to leave under her own power. And the fact that its her father's Way suggests an even better chance.

And as such thoughts come to Priya's mind, the Pattern seems capable, and willing, of transporting her there.

But, even with her Father.. such a thing could be rude... assuming he was to his Way was ShadowBane was to his. And then, in a moment of clarity, she saw what she wanted. Not in clear detail, but in generalities. A sword for Ostegos. A blade worthy of the opponents he may well face in her company. Something from the last age. The assumption was that some such creation may be covered in dust and cobwebs in some tomb, left over from the previous age. If she were fortunate, it would be no more than locating where it was, information lost to the general populace, and taking it. She could hope, at least.

Priya does not get a verbal or mental response from the Pattern as the thought comes to mind, but an image, transmitted to her, comes instead.

An ancient tomb, lost and forgotten. A ray of sunlight shines through a dusty high opening to lay upon the

A slightly curved, sawtooth sword, with a lapis lazuli decorated hilt and a blade made of a metal that looks more like bronze or brass than iron or steel.

A blade from an older age, unclaimed all of this time. Distant, but reachable.

To where the blade lies? comes the unspoken question.

Her 'yes' is as unspoken, but clear as the question. Time to see what she could find... and what other things of note might be there.

And so the realm of the Primal Pattern disappears in an eyeblink...

And a new thread for Priya will commence.
