Alexander "Xander" Windhaven

"I won't worry my life away.
When I fall in love I take my time
There's no need to hurry when I'm making up my mind
You can turn off the sun but I'm still gonna shine
And I'll tell you why...

Appearance

Xander is tall and exceptionally good-looking. He has the physique and the hands of a man used to hard labor, and the tan of someone who is outside a lot, but is usually pretty covered up when he meets the sun. Xander looks exactly like his twin brother Xavier (except for clothing choice, hair style and facial mannerisms). He has thick, wavy dark brown hair that could be shoulder-length if he did not wear it pulled back in a ponytail, which he almost always does. His most striking features are his deep-set, fantastically green eyes. He is twenty-four years old.

Like his father, Xander usually wears riding trousers, a loose shirt and a vest, most often in earth tones. His clothes are often dusty from work and faded from the sun. He wears riding boots with spurs almost all the time. Riding gloves are tucked in his waistband. Like his father and brother, he can look devastatingly handsome when dressed up.

History

Xander is the son of Christophe and Amelia Windhaven, and the twin brother of Xavier. He is the older twin, making him the oldest of their six children. While no one else really considers it to make much difference which of the twins is older, it is very important to Xander, who takes his protective duty as oldest brother very seriously. It is, in fact, the only thing he takes seriously: in every other regard, Xander is laid-back to the point of being a pushover, preferring to use his fantastic (although quirky) sense of humor instead of getting riled up. The only exception to this is when he thinks his family is being treated badly - he has no sense of humor about that.

The death of his mother made his earlier desire to protect his family into a quest - he is especially protective of his sisters and most particularly of Tori. Xander, perhaps because most of his experience is with horses, can be pretty physical in his defense of those he loves. He believes in the punch in the jaw method of education.

Xander enjoyed his stint at University, but always missed his horses and the vineyards and his home. He's a down-to-earth guy, and he didn't really know what to do with all those books and lectures. Not that he's not smart, but book-smarts don't really interest him. He graduated with decent but certainly not stellar marks and hurried back home.

Xander was never really all that eager to leave his home planet, but he isn't the kind of person who would put his personal inclinations over the good of the family, or even the desires of the rest of the family. He worked hard at preparing for the move, said goodbye to all his old friends and even his long-time girlfriend and focused on a new life. He was going to do his damnedest to make a new home on Aquila.

Christophe trained Xander, with his brother Xavier, to oversee the Windhaven lands as full heirs. He is pleased though that the twins are taking different directions. The twins know their ways around various types of keeping books, records (grapes, wines, horses), etc.

Xander is a consummate rider and trainer of horses. He breeds and trains the Windhaven line of horses for all purposes from a general mount, to a racer, to a jumper. He also knows how to grow and tend grapes.

Like his father, Xander dabbles in swordplay and archery, but his focus is on martial arts, both to keep up his muscles, and to knock some sense into people who disrespect his family.

Disadvantage

To begin with, the twins know about as much as their father does when it comes to lumber and woodworking. Neither one is comfortable with taking over the lumber and woodworking and left it in the capable hands of their younger brother, Tristan.

More specific to Xander is his irrational over-protectiveness of his family and especially his sisters. This can get him into trouble, both with outsiders and with those aforementioned sisters.
