Victor EarthIndex | Time Under Chaos | Settings | Shadows of Note | Victor Earth Head of State: King Victor I / A president who changes every 4-8 years. Tech: Capped at Shadow Earth 1870's with steampunk advances. No electrical/diesel motors. Some Alchemy. Gov: The two most powerful states are a Constitutional Monarchy and a Constitutional Representative Democracy Style: Extended fantastic victoriana/ wild wild west Representative: none (restricted access, not Golden Circle) Johann Payne spent many years of his life in a shadow which he and Damien called Victor Earth after the name of the king of the Brentish Empire, Victor I. It has clearly been influenced by three nearby strong shadows: Shadow Earth, Texorami, and Landis. This has produced elements of “Wild West” and “Fabulous Victoriana” within the same strong shadow. (Ruins of Landis also exist, and the Landis influence is responsible for the potency of alchemy in this shadow.) Technology is roughly analogous to the Victorian period, and most of the nation states have an analog on Shadow Earth of that time period (~1830-1900). Rigid Airships, alchemically enhanced steam engines, and floating islands are some of its wonders. Because of limitations on Victor Earth’s fundamental laws, men will soon advance to the highest level of technology possible. Refinement is possible, but ultimately all of life’s mysteries within the shadow will be conquered by science. One notable absence in this shadow is the electric motor, but alchemically-enhanced super efficient steam engines have been able to fill much the same role. Machines capable of producing static electric discharges exist, but are too expensive for general use as weapons. The Victorian period, the reign of Victor I, had just begun when Johann and Damien graduated from Havahd Yad university with their respective degrees. Since Victor was a strong shadow of both Queen Victoria and Emperor Trimagus, and since he has access to potent anti-agapic alchemical agents, his reign is not going to end any time soon. When coupled with the technological stasis which will soon take place, political and social development is also likely to remain quite static. The continents North and South Texorami are bridged by the Texorami Delta, where Texorami City is located. Around the city itself is a lush delta, beyond which was an area reminiscent of the ‘old west.’ Much of North and South Texorami is administrated under a single constitution, though the Territories have a greater degree of autonomy than the States. Without a formal law-enforcement body, the Territories are ruled by the fastest gun and the sharpest blade. The intellectual nexus of the new world is New Brenton Island, which has a great deal in common with Boston and New York from Shadow Earth. Texorami City is the commercial and industrial nexus. In the 'old country', the capitol of the Brentish Empire, Londinium, is ruled by King Victor I. Under his wise rule, Great Frisia had extended its reach beyond the home islands of Pictland and Brenton to encompass a series of artificially created floating islands where their Zeppelins dock. While Hindoostan is the jewel in the crown of the empire, floating islands off of the coast of the Jade Domain provide access to its wealth as well. The Texorami Territories eschew the pursuit of alchemy, but for the noblemen and women of the Brentish Empire, it was one of the only pursuits other than gambling which they could engage in. This is one of many factors which leads to thriving global trade. |
