 RilgaMother of Caine, Julian and Gerard. Rilga was seen by many, including Oberon, as a breath of fresh air after the haughty and explosive Clarissa and flighty, temperamental Y'liena. She was beautiful, quiet and competent. She was sent to Amber as the secretary of a diplomatic envoy, and one night after dinner, Oberon happened to find her finishing up some paperwork in a private parlor. She explained that she thought better where there was still the sound of people. Oberon found himself strangely drawn to her straight-forward but reserved nature, and found that he could actually talk to her - something he had rarely been able to do with women. Their relationship progressed slowly, due partially to the presence of the Queen Y'liena and partially to Rilga's self-respect and self-confidence. However, when the envoy returned to their Shadow, Rilga remained behind. Oberon explained that she had agreed to be his personal secretary, and the ambassadors had not disagreed. A few years later, Y'liena was out and Rilga was in. She was effortlessly good at paperwork, and while she was non-political, she was exceedingly good at hosting parties and entertainment, organizing charity work and other functions Amberites expect of their queens. She bore Oberon three sons and tried to instill in them a sense of honor and fair play which Oberon considered largely unimportant. Despite her great love for Oberon, and his for her, he remained constantly unfaithful, and after a time, she was no longer able to ignore the fact of it. Of all of his wives, Rilga is the only one to leave Oberon. The ship she was taking to return to her own shadow was lost in a storm. Rilga was never heard from again. |
