TakeiKaito

Name: Takei Kaito

Location: The Hanzo Market, Kyoto District, City of Amber

In the words of Samanosuke Reynard...

Takei-san is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Not foolish nice, I've seen plenty of people try to take advantage of him and learn, the hard way, that he's not a push-over. I met him because I was stealing from him. I was six years old, and terribly, terribly hungry. I stole a cups of soup from his booth, tonjiru soup, still the best that I've ever had. It was my third or fourth theft from his booth, and if you ask me, I think he knew about every time. He just let me slide. Finally, he turned just as I picked up a cup, and asked me if I wanted to help him around the booth. Sweeping up, stirring the soup on the burners he had in the back, even chopping up ingredients once he taught me how. I know now that it was likely the nicest thing anyone had ever done for me, I was stealing from him because I was poor and hungry, and he gave me a job -- made me earn the soup, in as much as a 6 year old can earn anything. We played games, and he introduces me to manga, literally the 'whimsical pictures'. There were all kinds of stories in those pages; samurai, monks, detectives, yakuza. Takei-san had been a fan of them for some time, and was something of a closet artist himself. If Hikaru-sensei can be blamed for my interest in Bujutsu, it was Takei-san that made me a reader and an artist.

Reputation:

Friend and one time student of Nakamura Hikaru, Takei Kaito is an educated man that was once a Barrister in the City of Amber. In his mid-20s, in the midst of a brilliant legal career, something happened that caused Takei to leave his career behind and open a booth in the Market selling soup. The best tonjiru soup in Kyoto, by most accounts. He sells it by the cup, for a reasonable price, and makes it right there in his booth. He keeps a small apartment somewhere in Sake Town, and can be seen riding his bicycle to work every morning. He is always well, if casually, dressed, and is known for wearing aprons with a variety of quotes, slogans, and images on the chest. It is said that he has never worn the same apron twice.

Apron Examples:

  • “It is easier to make certain things legal than to make them legitimate.”
  • "A legal kiss is never as good as a stolen one."
  • “Anybody who thinks talk is cheap should get some legal advice.”
  • "Do nothing which is of no use."
  • "Do not think dishonestly."
