JoaoTenQuestionsThe Ten QuestionsTHE TEN QUESTIONS 1) Where does your character get their laundry done? Describe it and the people they might encounter there. Joao likely has the staff of the Estate** do it for him. While he might "live" separately and he's managed to talk his mother into that, complete independence is something that she will not see done. 2) Does your character sleep well? If the character has dreams, what kind of dreams are they? Everyone dreams, even if they don't remember it. Joao's dreams are of the ocean, of swimming, of the smell of the sea. Typical Rebmanian imagery. 3) Your character gets into a discussion about death and dying. How would your character describe the perfect death? A perfect death would be one that upholds the lives of his friends, or his family's honor 4) Describe your character's personal bedroom or suite. Where is it located? Describe the contents of the room. What is the style of furniture? What items are of importance and why? As he lives in a bungalow in the Baronial pied-a-terre in the Coral Coast, Joao's bedroom is located in that building. His bedroom is relatively simple and unadorned. The bedroom window faces east and the ocean, with a clear sight line to the private beach and the ocean of the estate as a whole. The bed is lined up with it, so that he can awaken and see the rising sun over the water. Also in the bedroom are a few personal touches and bric-a-brac. One prize is a large tank of saltwater in which is a growing coral, a reminder of home. Joao is religious about changing out the water in the tank on a regular basis to keep the coral alive and healthy. 5) How would your character describe their perfect mate/spouse? Joao would be happy with a spouse who didn't marry him for pure reasons of noble politics. He isn't sure that's entirely possible. In his dreams he imagines a mate who might love him for his talents, rather than more sundry matters. 6) Describe your character's life ambition. Is this their personal goal or is it one forced upon them by their peers/parents? Joao's ambitions are to slowly make a life for himself within the bounds of his position. He's marriage-bait, he knows it, but he wants to be educated, to not just be a dumb officer in the ranks of Rebma's army, or arm candy for the baroness or countess' daughter that he seems destined to be married off to. Still, he wants to live up to his family's name. 7) Which Elder Amberite does your character respect and look up to? Which Elder Amberite does your character despise? Why? Joao is athletic and agile, and respects those qualities in the Amber Royal Family. Bleys seems to have the charm and social skills his mother would have in him, AND is highly skilled. Julian's taste for blood sports is very similar to the sometimes cruel Rebman nobility, and so Julian is respected as well. Joao doesn't despise any of the Elders, per se. He doesn't like the role that Flora seems to project--since it occurs to him that if Princess Flora were to have a daughter, Joao's mother would have him be presented in front of her like a prize bull. Joao is somewhat frightened of Fiona. His talent with magic is very minor at present and someone with such a grasp of the esoteric makes him nervous. 8) Your character finally has a break from classes. Describe their perfect day off. Where would they go? Would they want others around or be alone? A swim in the ocean off of the private beach in the estate to start the day, followed by breakfast. Then Joao would roam the city, letting instincts and spur of the moment decisions guide him. Being truly free for a day calls for a day where choices are not mapped in advance. His life is often too mapped as it is, so Joao would just live in the moment. He's neither adverse nor overly seeking of others, equally happy with either. 9) University offers numerous opportunities to interact with different races and species. How well does your character fit into new societies? Do they have any prejudices? If so, why? Joao has worked hard to avoid a Rebman-centric attitude. It's difficult, being raised as a child of a powerful Rebman noble family to avoid their subconscious social attitudes toward their "lessers" (non-Rebmans, and especially non Rebmans and Amberites). Amber (and the University's) cosmopolitan nature has worked to erode those prejudices. 10) What would provoke your character into committing a greater evil, such as murder? Greater evil? Such evils are only permissible in the service of preventing something even greater befalling. Perhaps he might do it to keep his family from falling, for example. It would be difficult. |
