Rochester (Roche for short) is a magician specialized in summoning various spirits and controlling them, a specialist with an innate and genius like understanding of his craft. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, earned an executive salary with one of the major corporations. But like many rich who have everything given to them, he found himself caught up in addiction. Able to control even the nastiest of demonic spirits, he was unable to tame his own, and soon gambled everything to score his next hit trading corporate secrets to a rival company. Arrested and imprisoned, Roche was finally released. Untrusted by the major corporations, his skills are still in demand on the street - and Roche is not picky, so long as you can fix him up with his drug of choice.

Got a rough draft of a character with 400bp now. I just started reading the Street Magic accessory and might change a few things, but basic concept will stand. Here's some notes about his character to expand on the basic stats.

First, he's using his own tradition:

Roche approaches his spirit magic closely to that of the Chaos tradition, freely using technology with his magic and thinking most of the traditions are just mental handicaps imposed by ancient belief systems that hinder the summoner. He thus has no problem with spirits appearing however they wish, and is equally comfortable with them being variable in nature or choosing to take a solid form or inhabit some structure or body. His summoning is thus a mix/mash of the beliefs of other traditions. But he does see spirits more as individuals and unique intelligences than something just summoned and formed by the will of the caster, and thus relies upon his ability to convince a spirit to work with him (thus drain is based more on charisma than just logic of the chaos tradition)

Combat - Fire (ala a Balrog) Detection - Guidance (ala Bob of Dresden Files or communing with a higher Power) Health - Earth (manipulating the elements of one's body) Illusion - Air (illusion is after all nothing) Manipulation - Water (to change something is to make it fluid) Drain - Willpower + Charisma (most spirits act based on their relationship with the caster and his influence over them)

along these lines, his positive attributes are Spirit Affinity, Mentor Spirit and Sensei. I see Roche's primary teacher being a guidance spirit he's known since childhood (Adversary archetype).

Don't really see myself as a Dresden type. For one thing I'm an elf - once a charismatic high roller living the good life and having it made. Now however a strung out, one promising magician who is forced to live on the streets due to his criminal ID and drug habit. Still quite good looking and charming - very likable at face value, which he uses to go hook up with various party scenes to score women and drugs. But where once he was summoning spirits to do high level corporate work, now he's more likely to be paid a few Nuyen to satisfy whatever street thug needs a bit of spiritual muscle and harboring a deep resentment now against the rich and powerful - of course still wanting to once again be one himself.

Figured his drug of choice would be deepweed (cr249). Probably got started thinking he could handle it, and the extra willpower was useful.
