AquilanTitles

Index

Just a brief refresher course for everybody on Aquilan titles and how people should be addressed.

Heads of House and Spouses

"Lord/Lady <lastname>" is reserved for Heads of House and spouses, if any. The current title holders are...
Lord Anderon = Delan
Lady Anderon = Bea
Lord Acciaio = Nicola
Lady Acciaio = Iolanthe
Lord Hoberty = Willif
Lady Hoberty = (not sure there is one. Willif's wife, if any)
Lady Bahlmis = Rosalor
(Rosalor is unmarried, so there is no Lord Bahlmis.)
Lord Carlysle = Grayson
Lady Carlysle = There isn't one, unless the previous Lord left a widow.
Lord Maun = ?
That's a tricky question. Calling anyone "Lord Maun" before the succession is settled could have people making unwarranted assumptions about one's politics.
Lady Maun = There isn't one.
Lord Windhaven = Christophe
Lady Windhaven = Helena (since she's the widow of the previous Head of House). If Christophe's wife were still alive, there'd be two of them.
Lord Tremontaine = Lucien
Lady Tremontaine = Lily
Lord Rostay = Stafford
Lady Rostay = (Stafford's wife, if any)
Lord Oswestry = Roderigo
Lady Oswestry = There isn't one
Lord Creoni = Justin
Lady Creoni = There isn't one, unless Justin's mother is still alive
Lord Clover = Maxim
Lady Clover = will soon be Andrea (nee Rostay). Also Maxim's mother if she's still alive.
Lord Lagoran = Farquar
Lady Lagoran = Nira
Lord Lasse = Kenton
Lady Lasse = Kylara (Ky)
Lord Greywood = Ethan
Lady Greywood = Olivia
Lord Cavendish = ??
Lady Cavendish = ??

Children and Grandchildren of Heads of House

"Lord/Lady Firstname (Lastname)" is used for children of Heads of House (and grandchildren, possibly?). These include...
Lord Giulian Anderon
Lady Renalda Anderon
Lady Rosalor Anderon (Rosie)
Lord Gallfrey Anderon
Lady Gianina Acciaio and her siblings
(Note that before Rugero was disinherited, he was "Lord Rugero Acciaio" as the son of the previous Lord Acciaio, Arturo)
Lady Geneva Carlysle
Lord Xavier Windhaven
Lord Alexander Windhaven (Xander)
Lady Gabriella Windhaven
Lady Ashly Windhaven
Lady Victoria Windhaven (Tori)
Lord Alexander Tremontaine
Lady Renata Tremontaine
Lord Adrian Rostay [Bella's husband]
(Bella herself, strictly speaking, should probably be addressed as "Lady Adrian Rostay," but no one ever does so. She was Lady Bella Oswestry before her marriage, and people got into the habit...)
Lady Morine Lagoran (Farquar's sister)
Lady Salome Lasse (Salla)
Lord Victor Hoberty (Is a grandson but is a direct heir.)
Lady Nerissa Carlysle is so addressed because she is the sister of the current Lord Cavendish; before her marriage she would have been "Lady Nerissa Cavendish," and the title carries over even though her husband, Rurick Carlysle, is not titled "Lord."

All of these people should be addressed as "Lord/Lady" with their FIRST name.

Mistakes are understandable in characters who don't have a lot of experience in Aquilan society yet. If your character has that excuse, fine! :)

...oh, and believe me, this is WAY simpler than, for instance, British titles of nobility.... --Margaret Dean

Address of Citizens

Citizens are called Mr/Mrs/Miss.
For example Mr. Josh Salter, Miss Kate Calloway.

Galactic norm:

It's Fem (rhymes with Him) and M (pronouced like Him without the H). And usually, if you are using the honorific, you leave the first name out.
So in the examples above, you'd have M Salter and Fem Calloway.
