X-BrattName: Xavier Bratt BackgroundXavier's father was a psychological engineer for Renraku; he was over creche development in the Archology. His genius and vocal nature made him many enemies, but his work and family were above reproach. That is, until his son was found out to be a metahuman. Under normal conditions, as his son was able to pass as normal, this would not have been a big problem. But with his polarizing nature, and the abundance of enemies and rivals he had, it was only a matter of time until someone outed his son. His prestige was all that would have suffered, if not for the fact that he would not let the censure go. From the top to the bottom in a matter of weeks, his family ended up out of the arcology into the streets of Seattle. His mother decided to stick by his father, even though her family could have kept her from the fall, and died a few weeks later in a senseless robbery. His father broke not long after that, leaving young Xavier to his own devices. Of course there was no legitimate way to make money, so he fell into illegal activities- running packages for various crime figures. Though sometimes he used vehicles, mostly it was just his feet and his instincts, as he learned the art of parkour from the school of hard knocks. He loved the freedom he experienced running from rooftop to rooftop in the city, finding was from point a to point b that no ground bound courier ever could. There were others like him, flitting between the buildings in the city, and from one of them he began to learn to fight when he couldn't flee. He found that he had a talent for that also, enough so that his teacher began to suspect that there was something else about him and introduced him to his boss. Vilo was a man in the middle - he took tribute from several gangs, but wasn't big enough to be considered organized crime. But he was a survivor and a hustler, and was able to take advantages and parlay them into another rung up the ladder to success. X became another rung in that ladder. After his pet mage (little more than a burnout) was able to see that X's preternatural abilities stemmed largely from magick, he had him trained, and farmed him out to more connected gangs, and even corps. After all, and adept runner was hard to come by. X had the idea in his mind that he would run for Vilo for a while, then climb the ladder a bit himself. But though Vilo treated him like a son, he soon learned there was a mailed gauntlet in the velvet glove. When X decided that enough was enough, and had an offer from one of Vilo's clients, Vilo revealed that he'd been taking care of X's father- and had Docs look him over and determine that his condition was treatable. He'd been on meds that made him like the father that X had looked up to. But if X took off, he'd make sure that his since Vilo couldn't touch X because of the connections that he'd fostered in getting his job, he could touch his father... |
