Ragueneaus

Index

Ragueneau's is a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant about half a block from the University campus. They specialize in pastries, and people have been known to say they could live for a week on one of Ragueneau's meat pies. They also do good soups. The place is usually crowded with students, the atmosphere replete with companionable chatter, the warmth of the big ovens, the smell of baking pies and simmering pots.

Patrons place their orders at the counter in the back, then take a seat and wait for their meal to be brought. There are no printed menus. Instead, the day's selection of pies, soups, beverages and desserts are listed on a slate mounted on the wall above the counter, artistically rendered in colored chalk. Pies come in four sizes: Hand (pasty), Single (6"), Double (9"), and Family (12").
